Grumman Albatross G-64
(S-16, HU-16)

Grumman Albatross

The Grumman Albatross amphibian vehicle, first designed in 1947, was used by the US Navy, the US Coast Guard, and the US Air Force (for rescue operations), and later by other operators, although its service was not economical due to the high level of fuel consumption. Different versions were produced until the mid 1960s, and included versions featuring anti-submarine and Antarctic operations.

The photo above was taken at a regional airport in sourthern Arizona, December 1997.
